Well said, Alvaro. I do something similar. It's a file on my laptop desktop called "Story Ideas." It's quite a jumble, but it is the warehouse of bits of conversation, FB memes, memories, news events. Whatever sparks an idea for a story. Sometimes even a comment I write ends up in there as the kernal of a story. The world is filled with inspiration. I'm surprised when someone says, I can't think of anything to write. Holy merde!
Yes, that's what I think too, Sue. I imagine people who say they aren't creative as standing on a gold mine, oblivious to all the gold they have beneath their feet if only they dug a little deeper. Your way of saving story ideas is similar to what I do with my journal. It's a way to sift through them and start refining them. Then I transfer those ideas to draft articles on Substack.
Have you read Joan Didion’s essay, “On Keeping a Notebook”? It is in this vein as well, with her own distinctive voice and spin. It’s luscious, and I carry a notebook all the time as well. Cheers!
