Recently, there has been a push for incorporating VUCA into the educational system so children grow to be more prepared. VUCA is short for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. This seems aligned to what you suggest here about preparing in the right way.

Oh, I didn't know that and that's exactly what this text is about, you're right. It seems to me a good proposal, it is increasingly valuable to prepare for uncertainty because changes happen quickly. Before it was valuable to have information, because access to it was limited, today what is valuable is to know how to analyze it. That is the case of VUCA.

My Grandmother always gave us a silver dollar on our birthdays -from the time we were just little.

“Always keep a little silver,” she would tell us, “not because you know what will happen, but because you never know what will happen.”

This from a woman who had lived through WWI the Spanish flu, market crash of “29” the Great Depression/ dust bowl of the thirties, WWII, the Korean War.

She knit socks and sweaters and sent them overseas to her siblings that served this country in the military.

Her family had been in Canada since the 1700’s -they knew hardship. She had a spine of steel the intestinal fortitude of Titans, and the wisdom of the ancestors.

Wow, what a story! That impressed me.

You can tell you have been a person who has lived through many difficult circumstances. It is admirable how people managed to thrive and find a way out of the most difficult problems in those times. It was touching to read your grandmother's story, truly.

My grandmother used to tell me something similar about saving. She used to tell me that you have to live a little below the standard of living you can afford to save a little each month and put it in the piggy bank, because today you don't need it but tomorrow who knows?

Hi Sue! :)

Well do it, because you never know when it might break. I have put my stuff safe because since I write I am generating a lot of information and I don't want to lose it. I think it's worth taking that trouble once in a while and backing it up.
