This explains a lot, Alvaro. At about 2 (14:00) my brain powers down. The ensuing nap happens whether I want to or not. The brain is done! You're right about the 60-minute naps, too. I wake up like a zombie. The information about coffee and its timing during nap was a surprise. No wonder that happens. You've solved several mysteries today, Alvaro.

Hi Sue! :)

I'm so glad it inspired you, I really am. It's something I've been curious about, because if nighttime sleep is so important, I thought naps must serve some purpose and have a science behind them.

And it did! It turns out the key is to nap for 10 to 20 minutes to stay alert, and only 60 minutes if you're really exhausted that day, but it shouldn't be a routine because it harms the quality of nighttime sleep.

I found it striking, and even more so the rudimentary "Dalí alarm clock" for his short naps.

I agree. I thought Dali's method was brilliant.
